South Austin artist Megan Merrill recently invited me into her home studio to help kick off atxCreative, a new, long term photography project I've undertaken. While Megan was originally focused on drawing and watercolors, her work has grown a great deal. I had the opportunity to capture her putting the final touches on a new piece for her Figurative Makeup series.
The figures and forms she portrays for this series are painted entirely with donated or unwanted makeup. This kind of creative connection between ideas and form and style inspire me each and every day and makes me appreciate the level of thought and detail that goes into creating great art. Here the medium itself add so much more depth to an already powerful painting.
It's always interesting stepping into an artist's space as well. This is the place where a host of creative ideas and skill come together to create something far greater than all of the individual ingredients combined. Megan's studio was no different, full of colors, ideas and inspirations.
